Petroleum production on the Norwegian continental shelf in the far north presents technical and environmental challenges. The OLF had long worked on conditions related to HSWE in these waters.
A special working party appointed by the OLF has pursued these issues. Its membership has been broadly representative of operator companies, the supplies industry and unions.
This working party has devoted particular attention to the additional requirements for thermal protection imposed by colder air and sea climates in the far north. These include training, dress, enclosure of work areas and survival suits.
Long transport distances and a lower density of air and sea traffic make bigger demands on emergency preparedness. The industry will take account of the above-mentioned considerations in the current revision of the guidelines for area response.
